The other day DH and I were in a neighboring city for dinner, and I asked if we could stop by Jo-Ann fabrics so I could quickly look for some ribbon suitable to make birthday hair ribbons for Kirsten. (I don't know why AG never gave her nice woven pink hair ribbons.) Far more interesting than looking for ribbon, however, was what they had done to the store! It was TOTALLY redone--very nicely--and now it has a HUGE scrapbooking section! Oh dear--temptation! It's probably good we don't get to the city all that often! I am assuming Jo-Anns all over the country are getting this makeover.
I did find some woven pink stuff but it wasn't really like the hair ribbons AG has for Kirsten. If anyone knows where I could find pink ribbon that is made of the same kind of woven material that AG's ribbons are made out of, let me know!

Sady, the Jo-Ann where I live closed several years ago and there's no sign of it reopening anywhere nearby. When I first found the store, about ten years ago, it was wonderful but it went downhill very badly and lost alot of customers. I really wish a terrific fabric store would open around here. We do have Michael's, with lots of scrapbooking supplies and more, but very little fabric (although surprisingly good yarn).

Our Jo-ann was remodled, ooh la la, it's very nice!
Maybe you can order the white woven ribbons from AG that came with one of Kirstens outfits and then dye it pink.

Kirsten has white hair ribbons?
Edited: do you mean the cream colored ones that came with the work dress?

Wow--now I'm jealous! That is my favorite store, and the people at my local one are very nice, always asking what I'm making and remembering the next time I go in! One time an employee even invited me to go to an historical event. A few years ago, they knew what doll I was sewing for (Josefina) just from the fabrics I chose. The other craft stores around here are not at all that friendly.
Are these new stores called Jo-Ann, etc.? Those are the bigger stores with more crafting supplies. I just have the plain jane kind, but still really like it.
The saddest thing is, I think they discontinued their magazine. I can't find it anywhere. The last issue had a bunch of Scandinavian crafts that looked very Kirsten-ish to me. I made a few--they were really neat!
Ann, if you can find *white* 100% cotton ribbon, you can dye it using RIT. RIT is a really inexpensive dye, available in grocery stores. You just dump it in a bucket with hot water, and then dump in whatever you want to dye. I wouldn't think the entire craft would cost any more than $3-5.

I don't know if the one in Keene, NH is being redone. I won't know until May most likely. I just like that you can get a small discount if you present your Girl Scout card.
